NOT SURE WHETHER YOUR GEAR IS HOLDING YOUR IMAGES BACK?
When you're considering upgrading your gear, it's not always easy to know what's actually making a difference. Most comparisons rely on finished images.
Now you can compare cameras and lenses by working directly with the RAW files.

Have you been questioning your gear?
When you're trying to improve your photography, it’s natural to start looking at different cameras and lenses.
You've probably found yourself wondering whether another option would make a noticeable difference. You might feel like your images are close to what you want, but not quite there. Maybe they’re not as sharp as you expected, or they don’t hold up the way you’d like when you start editing them.
Cameras and lenses can make a difference, but they’re also a significant investment.
And once you’ve made that decision, it’s not always easy to go back and try something else. So it’s wise to want a clearer idea of what you’re getting before you commit to it—especially if you’re trying to avoid making an expensive mistake!
Choosing the “right” new gear feels confusing
You've probably found yourself comparing different options, watching reviews, and looking through sample images. Maybe you even go back and forth between the same few choices.
One video says one thing, another says something slightly different, and it’s not always clear how much of what you’re seeing comes down to the gear, the conditions, or the person behind the camera.
A big part of that uncertainty comes from the way most comparisons are presented. They’re based on finished images: already edited, adjusted for things like sharpness, contrast, and color.
So of course you’ve been feeling unsure—you've been trying to judge the performance of a camera or lens based on an end result that includes a lot more than just the original file.
This actually shows you the difference
In my experience, after working with different camera and lens combinations over many years, the most useful way to understand the differences is to look at the RAW files themselves.
RAW files show you what the camera and lens actually captured before any editing is applied.
By comparing these files, you can begin to see how much detail is really there, how the image behaves when you start working with it, and how different setups compare under similar conditions.
You finally have a more consistent reference point.
Now you can make a confident decision
Instead of relying on other people’s conclusions, you can now work with the files yourself.
You’re no longer just looking at the finished image. You’re exploring what each setup actually produces, and testing edits in your own style. You start to see where the differences between cameras and lenses actually matter, and where they don’t make as much impact as you expected.
That’s what helps you to choose the right gear for you.
Just imagine: instead of spending hours, days, or even weeks agonising over which gear is right for you to invest in, you'll have something concrete you can work with. You'll be able to make that decision with clarity and confidence.
INTRODUCING

A structured library of RAW files from a range of cameras and lenses, designed to give you something concrete to work with.
Instead of trying to interpret finished images, you can work directly with RAW files from my own photography and see what each setup actually produces in real conditions.
You'll get access to:

1000+ RAW files
30+ camera and lens combinations
Organized for easy comparisons
More files added over time
Instead of piecing things together from different sources, you can easily compare the same camera used with multiple lenses, or the same lens used across different camera bodies.
You might use the library to:
Compare gear you’re currently considering.
Look more closely at how much difference a lens makes compared to a camera body.
Test how the files respond when you edit them in your own style.
Get a clearer sense of whether the limitations you’re seeing come from your gear.
If you’re curious, simply explore the files and take a closer look at my photography.
Take a closer look

These are the kinds of comparisons you’ll be able to make inside the library.
Same camera. Same conditions. Different lenses.
So you can see how each setup actually performs, rather than trying to interpret finished images.
As I work with new cameras and lenses, I’ll continue adding files to the library.
In some cases, I’ll even be able to include RAW files from cameras before they’re released, so you can explore them early and see how they perform in practice.

What photographers say about learning from Jan
“Jan, the legend! You've taught me everything. People ask how I get such good shots and end results, and I always have to say that I couldn't of done it without you!”
“In the last year I've spent £1000s on photo equipment, but the purchase of his masterclass has been without doubt, the most important part in all of it. Thank you Jan - I've learnt so much from this channel and am taking bird photos now that are the best I've ever taken in my life, due to your knowledge and insight.”
“You are a great instructor - clear, precise instructions showing exactly how you edit photos. My editing skills have improved. Thank you so much for making a great photo editing class.”
“I was a bit unsure about signing up, but I'm so glad I did. I can really see my editing and workflow efficiency improving after your course.”
I bring that same experience and knowledge into my RAW File Library, based on decades of working with different cameras and lenses in the field.
Meet Jan Wegener
German-born and now living on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, I have had a keen interest in birds from a young age, with a particular fascination for parrots.
After some time working as a freelance real estate photographer, I decided to go all in on my true passion, bird photography.

I enjoy sharing that passion and helping other photographers in their journey—whether that's creating great bird photos, finding the right gear for the job, or transforming their RAW files into stunning final images with my masterclasses.
This library is a direct extension of that work.
It gives you access to the same files I’ve created in the field. You can explore and compare them for yourself, and better understand what different setups actually produce.

You’ll need software that can open and edit RAW files.
Most people will use something like Lightroom or Photoshop, but any compatible software will work.

Most sample images you see are already edited. That makes it harder to understand what the camera and lens actually captured.
Here, you’re working with the RAW files themselves, so you can see how the image behaves before any editing is applied.
